2012 Walk Your A.S. Off Was A Huge Success

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead.

Year one of Walk Your A.S. Off was a huge success!
Over 25 teams participated in the 10 week long virtual walk event and the goal of circling the globe in steps made in the name of Ankylosing Spondylitis was accomplished! The participants logged their steps daily either via a provided excel spreadsheet or printable old school log sheet. Every week their steps were reported to the team captains and recorded with Walk Your A.S. Off. The final number of steps totaled well over the 54 million needed at 63,978,087 steps!
The grassroots effort was launched last March 1, 2012 as an effort of a community of people with a disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis to spread awareness of their disease and share in doing something positive as a community. The walk is open to anyone and consists of a 10 week schedule aimed to get people in the habit of walking. Shorter or day only walks are great fund raisers and community and constituent building events but the aims of Walk Your A.S. Off is geared more towards affecting change in the lives of the participants.
With the success of the program, Walk Your A. S. Off is looking forward. A year round walk club begins on September 1, 2012 and the  2013 event continues to grow and develop.
