Tiara's Tuesday Talk – There Is More Going On Here

Tiara’s Tuesday Talk – by Sara Sheibley

MoneyPile
Doctor’s bills? Yes we got ‘em. (To the tune of $695 and that’s only the bills I have.)
Copays? They kill us. (I can’t even see some doctors because I don’t have the money for it.)
Prescriptions? Cost us a small fortune. (Thank my lucky stars for insurance, I feel for those who don’t have it.)
PillBottles
We jump through hoops for approvals for medicines, finding the ones that work best, affording appointments, affording physical therapy… The list goes on and on. What can we do? Not much because we need these things to continue on. Another thing that gets us down? You bet. The stress and anxiety of dealing with our illness isn’t enough right? We apparently need to have all the added stress of these roadblocks to our wellness.

Not to mention the “new” things that keep popping up. Neuropathy (especially in our poor feet and hands), Costochondritis (a prickly pear all in itself), Heart issues, bowel issues… Another never-ending list. This adds more medicines, more doctor’s appointments, more bills.

A few years ago, I had reached a point where I felt over-medicated without good results so I quit everything. I stop all my medications, threw caution to the wind and dove head deep into holistic treatments. Hundreds of dollars later, I still felt like crap. The solution??? Do both. Again I hit that “I need money” snag.

So, one morning last week after a dreary 2689 steps yesterday (stupid feet), I decided I needed a fresh approach. A new attitude if you will.

PositiveAttitude
can go a long way and yes, it does BUT
sometimes
things can still get you down. Being over-whelmed on occasions can be normal however, if you find you are blue more than happy, you might want to talk to someone. Ok so I’m not saying you need to see a shrink or a therapist, but you could talk to a friend. An ear (or eye) to listen (read) can go a long way to easing the burden that’s on your mind. There is also blogging, writing a journal or just going outside and screaming really, REALLY loud.
This walk IS about awareness, but it’s also about bringing a community of people together with mutual issues. We can support each other and not just with our steps. I mean don’t get me wrong… I love a good cheering section for my 2 steps or my 2,000,000 steps, I do. I just feel like there is so much more going on here (there is, isn’t there?). We’re making friends, creating bonds, becoming that place where you can go where everybody knows your name, and we’re always glad you came (I know you are singing along, you Cheers fans).
Cheers

Sara & her Tiara’s Tuesday Talk will discuss a myriad of topics from assistive devices to walking help when you have other illnesses to consider.

A few appointments ago I asked my dr if there was ever a good time to take a medication “vacation”. He didn’t think much of this idea because right now all my medical problems are pretty much stable and he was afraid something would happen (not good) if I stopped any of my meds. I too am thankful for this community!!
