ASIF (Aknylosing Spondylitis International Federation) endorses Walk Your A.S. Off.
ASIF was established in 1988 to increase public awareness of Ankylosing Spondylitis and to disseminate knowledge of the disease around the world. ASIF is a member of the People with Arthritis/Rheumatism in Europe (PARE), a standing committee of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR). ASIF also cooperates with the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS), the international working group of ankylosing spondylitis researchers.
Michael Mallinson, the secretary of the organization has participated in Walk Your A.S. Off since its inception in 2012 with his team, A.S. Busters and championed WYASO to the ASIF executive committee. Michael is also the director of the Canadian Spondylitis Association, one of ASIF’s member organizations. ASIF is focused on sharing information and experiences among the AS societies of 35 countries and 3 countries in preparation. Walk Your A.S. Off also currently has the participation of the Spondylitis Association of America (SAA) of the United States and the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS) of the UK.
ASIF has published a core set of recommendations for patients with ankylosing spondylitis concerning behavior and environmental adaptations that you can download HERE. Top among their recommendations that “will help you to reduce fears you may have regarding the disease, and help you to contribute to a favorable disease course by appropriate behavior and adaptation of your living and work environment” is – walking!
Walk Your A.S. Off is hoping that the endorsement of ASIF will help our goals of reaching people with A.S. worldwide. We welcome all the ASIF member organizations and their constituents to join us in walking for our health, for awareness, and hopefully one day, a cure!
Please join Walk Your A.S. Off in welcoming the ASIF member countries and societies.
