The Spirited Spondys

Million Stepper – Kelly Warner!

My name is Kelly Warner. I am deaf and 43 years old , married to a wonderful husband of 14 years, who is also deaf. Just months before my marriage, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The full extent of my disease wasn’t apparent until months afterwards. I endured fibromyalgia on top of it. We suspect “arthritis” ran in the family as my grandfather had Ankylosing Spondylitis. I started taking Enbrel in 1999. It was a miracle drug. It helped with the arthritis, but not the fatigue. I had gained considerable weight to the point of morbid obesity. Sabrina’s Daily Dose: Hiking and Pilates/Yoga

Sabrina’s Daily Dose: Hiking and Pilates/Yoga   —When I walk I stick to natural trails. They are easier on my feet and back.  I invested in solid waterproof (Reynaud’s) hiking shoes that have foam lining to add comfort.  I only carry my phone in one pocket and mace in the other.  I keep it light and make sure my clothing flows easily.  Then I’m off! Sabrina's Daily Dose – Exercise

Sabrina’s Daily Dose: Exercise I hear many Spondylitis patients say all the things they can’t do regarding exercise. Now I’m not going to dispute that there are days exercise is physically not possible but I will dispute that we can’t do it at all. I know fully fused Spondys that Move Their AS still. They may not be doing jumping jacks or running a marathon but they are stretching their stiff bodies and doing whatever they can to keep mobility as long as they can. I am not able to do exercise like others or as long as others but… Read More »Sabrina's Daily Dose – Exercise

Finding Steps In All Kinds Of Places!

by Sabrina Diane Throughout this walk I’ve pushed myself out of my comfort zone to spread awareness and gather steps on a whole new level. AKA Harassing friends and family and now even strangers to join in and help us. The funny thing is with as awkward as I felt about asking these people they didn’t feel uncomfortable about it at all. They were open to listening and helping. Many of my friends and family were thrilled to have a way they could show support for me and my struggles with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Strangers felt inspired by our efforts and… Read More »Finding Steps In All Kinds Of Places!
