I recently opened the website for this very walk and saw “walking to raise awareness” because that is all that fit in the tiny window of my mini-computer. Of course the end says “of Ankylosing Spondylitis” which we are. We are also raising awareness in ourselves. In these 341 million steps we have walked I’m sure you have learned a bit more about the AS community, the people walking it, running it and literally running it (the people behind the walk) and even a little bit about yourself. First off let me say a huge “WAY TO GO!” for all… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Walk on brave soldiers, WALK ON!
Tiara’s Tuesday Talk
This week has been rough due to a lot of personal stuff going on but on the good side all this running here and there did lead to a pretty awesome step count week. Thanks to loads of activity with loads of stress, my body aches EVERYWHERE. Then there is the weather. Almost 80 today and they are calling for flurries Wednesday in the very early morning hours or as other people still consider it, night time. Humidity, no humidity. Cool day, warm day. Rain clouds but no rain. Of course it has been great weather for the Cherry Blossoms… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Step Conversions
I spent most of Sunday on my butt and whilst there I was hemming and hawing over what to write. I mean, I feel like I need to give 5 days of thought, 1 day to chill about it and about an hour to actually type something (if that…). One thing that came to mind and I kind of played around with was this. ↑ errrr…. More like ↗. Never give up. I’m stubborn. I know those who know me well are hardly shocked by this revelation but for everyone else just play along like it’s shocking. Somewhere, somehow, someone… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – The Rewards Of Not Giving Up!
Tiara’s Tuesday Talk – by Sara Sheibley Sometimes I should really pay attention to my own words. I type them, I read them yet I don’t heed them. This is how the story often goes, but this time I did myself in. For some reason even though I knew I was going to be busy, I knew it was a full day, I knew, I knew, I knew… And now… I wish but any way, I didn’t take my own advice. I was trying to do too much! Am I glad I cracked a new high for steps? Yep… 23,301 steps… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – We Live, We Learn, We Go On…
Tiara’s Tuesday Talk – by Sara Sheibley Here we are at and a lot of us are hitting our stride, figuring out pedometers and just simply WALKING! Isn’t this exciting??? Okay so our feet may not be finding as exciting as we are but hey, a little foot rub and they’ll be thanking you for it! Last year for the first few weeks of the walk I concentrated on assistive devices to aide in walking and things to do to relieve aches and pains. I was in a place at that time where I really couldn’t walk well. Actually…… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Hitting Our Stride
Tiara’s Tuesday Talk – by Sara Sheibley We all perceive pain differently. Some of us also fit nicely on that little pain scale in the doctor’s office… (Although 1 looks a little too happy) And some of us use one all of our own. They call this difference in all of us our pain threshold. How much pain we can endure before it gets to be too much. When it gets to that point, what do you do? Some people go see a doctor. Some of us, especially those of us with chronic illness tend to take something and… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Don't Ignore Those Nagging Pains!
Tiara’s Tuesday Talk – by Sara Sheibley And away we go! Go go go! Where are we headed? This is Mars, the red planet. Pretty huh? This is also this year’s destination. Well… Our ten year destination. Last year we made it to the moon with the help of every single one of you. Yep that’s right. Whether you ran a marathon or walked from your bed to the couch… You got us there. Of course Mars is a lot further away, BUT in the words of our fearless leader: We need about 80 billion steps to get from… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Go Time!
Rain Rain Go Away… Someone please explain this to me? Why do they give this day a 3? I’d give it a… I don’t know… 10! Rain = aches. Knees, elbows, lower back, mid-back, upper back, shoulders, that ankle I had operated on in 2010… I mean seriously, even my husband who has no arthritis at all gets achy knees when it rains. Oh and then it clears up after 4 days of rain and gets warmer so guess what??? Now I have aches from the weather changing. The more the weather changes the worse it gets. Autumn and Spring… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Just A LITTLE Black Rain Cloud???
Wait… What? Yes I’m here, aren’t you? What do you mean I shouldn’t be? Just because the walk is over doesn’t mean we don’t have things to talk about. I mean if you want I can go away… No? Okay. (Yes I really do talk to myself btw) Walk Your AS Off 2013 may be coming to a close with our final, and I mean the end all number for final steps (due by today) being anxiously awaited upon, BUT this doesn’t mean we can’t still talk. Or walk. Or run. Or cycle… You get the picture. Looks happy… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – I'm Here, Aren't You?
It was a dark and stormy night…. That’s how a good story starts right? No? Awe nuts. I’ve been thinking things over for a few days, well actually a week or so… Here we are at week 10. THIS is it. Reaching the moon… I wanted to make this a special post, to really put an EXCLAMATION on this journey we have been on together. As we approach the moon, there are a few things we need to clear up about it. First, it is not made of cheese. Trust me on this one. I would have been the… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Where We Go From Here
