Musical Motivation Monday – by Heather Stewart
Greetings Earthlings! It’s Monday and we are just breaking orbit on our journey to Mars!
That’s right, MARS! Last year we made it from the Earth to the Moon, this year we are beginning a longer walk. We don’t expect to make it to Mars in the next few weeks but we will get there eventually. So, everyone wants to know why Mars? The journey to Mars represents the average time it takes for someone with Spondylitis to be diagnosed and sadly that average is 10 years.
This is one of the reasons why raising awareness is so important! So don your traveling shoes, your sneakers, your walkers, your moon boots and hop aboard Starship WYASO2014 and get moving. Tell everyone you know what you’re doing – “I’m going to Mars on the Starship WYASO2014, traveling the distant stars to raise awareness about Spondylitis.” That should get the conversation going one way or another. Here’s another, “I am taking a long walk in space, boldly going where I have never gone before.” Or you can simply say, “Hi!”
Last year I shared these other options for those on the shy side:
- Wear your team logo while you walk…. someone is bound to ask you about it.
- If you see someone with a dog or a pedometer strike up a conversation and work your way to A.S.
- Send out an email at work making your co-workers aware of your participation in the walk, why you are walking and ask them to encourage you – maybe even ask you to get things for them.
This should get you moving and grooving. Remember, it’s a long journey and all it takes is putting one foot in front of the other.
