My name is Lynne McDonald and I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. I have had symptoms since I was 19, diagnosed officially when I was 49, and am now 63. It has been a long, trying battle of “me” against my body but I have fought on. I have tried numerous rheumatologists with all the same answer; drugs, see which ones work. None did. They made me feel worse. When they brought up the subject of Enbrel, I headed for the door in full fleeting mode due to reported side effects of certain blood cancers, which have a high occurrence in my family. I was even told by one rheumatologist not to come back… Read More »Why Walking Makes Me Feel Better – Keep Moving!
ASers Raising Awareness
Guest Post by Karen Fitch, Team Captain of Fitch Feet What’s your new normal? Do you have one of those quadruple pill sorters like I do? Maybe you have your infusion appointments logged into you smartphone’s calendar? Possibly you are spending the next few hours wrapped up in bed with a heating pad? Perhaps you are eating a bowl of chocolate peanut butter ice cream because it’s the only 19 minutes of joy in your life today? Feasibly, you’re playing gin rummy with your kid because it is all you can manage to do as playing catch in the backyard… Read More »What's Your New Normal?
The Walk AS One community stood tall this year to raise awareness for Ankylosing Spondylitis on World Arthritis Day 2016. Our teams walked 1,287,797 steps in ONE DAY to raise awareness for Ankylosing Spondylitis on World Arthritis Day, which was on October 12, 2016. Our Not-So-Silent auction raised the money we need to redo our Walk Your AS Off site with an integrated step count system with FitBit, so we’re going to be starting on that shortly. Our site will be much easier to manage for Walk Your AS Off 2017, so get ready for our best year yet! It’s… Read More »Walk Your AS Off World Arthritis Day 2016 – RECAP
Our team, Torus Ankylosaurus, celebrated crossing the finish line on May 31st, 2016! This is our second annual WYASO celebration and it won’t be our last. We stuck with a blue and orange theme again for our celebration. (It’s hard to change it up, lol!) We had blue cheese burgers and blue claw crab, candied carrots, orange mango salsa with blue chips and, of course, orange and blue mixed drinks! We had a great time playing board games and dancing! We ended the day with cake, a movie, and some gifts that I was not expecting! I have always been a science… Read More »Team Spotlight 2016: Torus Ankylosaurus
Hi Everyone! My name is Carrie Kellenberger and I’m Team Captain of The Walking Spondies. I thought I’d take the time to update you all on what our team got up to on World AS Day, which is always held on the first Saturday of May each year. This was our second team walking event for 2016, and we decided to host a potluck picnic in the park for the afternoon… Read More »World AS Day in Taiwan with The Walking Spondies
Greetings My People, Take a breath, a moment and please read this. I know this time of year I’m a broken record. “Join Rockin’ Weebles: Weebles Kick A.S.!” All I am trying to do is shed some light on the disease that I and so many others have. It isn’t going away. It’s scary for us. It gets worse every day. Every day we learn of other diseases/complications we have to be aware of as our body attacks itself. Every now and then we go through the grieving process for aspects of our life that we once enjoyed vanishing beyond… Read More »An Honest Appeal

This article is aimed at the guys/girls who are brave enough to get online and check out some websites because they have A.S… This is for you. The article may seem like the worst case scenario, but it is, as I have a severe case of A.S. So let’s talk about A.S. and if you… Read More »My Story – by Bret (part 2)

Karen Swank-Fitch, Team Captain Team Fitch Feet, has some very wise and inspirational words for all of us. The Walk Your AS Off countdown has begun. Get ready to walk on April 1st, and please stop by and leave Karen a comment. There is this certain song that has stuck with me since I was, say 5 years old or so. I have used this song as one of my “Soundtrack for Life” tunes that I used as motivation for my entire existence…be it to actually get up and move or to motivate myself internally. The ditty is from a… Read More »Just Put One Foot In Front Of The Other
What a year we’ve had! Congratulations to our first ever winners of the Walk AS One World Cup! Going forward we will hone in on our categories for these recognition awards as we get better at bringing in data from our teams.
