I Believe…

By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we create it. The nonexistent is whatever we have not sufficiently desired. – Franz Kafka I’ve been thinking a lot about our walk & how we can share what we are doing with the world & in the process raise awareness of spondylitis. I need to share with you all what I believe so hopefully you can understand better why everyone participating is doing something really really important. AND by understanding a little bit more about why our walk was created, we can see we have these beliefs in common… Read More »I Believe…

Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Preventing Aches & Pains

Tiara’s Tuesday Talk – by Sara Sheibley Today is going to be a hash up. My mind can’t seem to settle on one specific topic so let’s get this party started. Mostly we are going to discuss how to try and prevent aches and pains and what to do to help if they happen. As always, you should always consult a doctor (podiatrist, orthopedic,  rheumatologist, primary care) before starting any exercise program. I know my doctor is excited because he tries to keep me active while balancing the side effects. So I think I’ll start with podiatry. They love… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Preventing Aches & Pains

Sundays On A Walk With Michael – Week Two

Wednesday Walker Spotlight – Joe Tidwell

Wednesday Walker Spotlight – Joe Tidwell by Kim Anderson   Joe Tidwell started feeling severe back pain when he was 12 or 13 years old. The pain was so intense that he would often stay home from school and lay in bed. The doctors that he sought help from at that time did not think that there was anything wrong with him. By the time he got into high school, the doctors would tell his mother, Cindy, that the pain was “all in Joe’s head” and that he was simply trying to get out of going to school. His mother, being… Read More »Wednesday Walker Spotlight – Joe Tidwell

Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Assistive Devices

That’s right it’s Tuesday again and time for me to throw some exciting information at you about Assistive Devices for Walking. Recently I had to battle some demons of my own in this department and have decided, a cane is better than a fall. So, to educate you on this week’s subject matter I went to the world wide webby and found some pictures of all kinds of devices you can use. I knew about most of these however they certainly have way more than I thought before. So I educated myself to better serve you! Let’s start with canes.… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Assistive Devices

A Walk in Malita, Davao Del Sur, Philippines With Ivanhoe Ardiente

I first met Ivanhoe through AS Facebook friends a couple of years ago. His story & struggles with his fused joints are heart wrenching and inspiring at the same time. Ivanhoe has not only a fully fused back but fusing in one shoulder and both hips. His body has become a cage limiting movement in a way so many cannot even begin to imagine. And yet, his spirit soars – uncaged – it takes flight through his kind acts and most especially through his talent with a paint brush. Ivan asked me if he could walk for Walk Your A.S.… Read More »A Walk in Malita, Davao Del Sur, Philippines With Ivanhoe Ardiente
