For our third year of Walk Your A.S. Off we decided that we had to become “Champions of World AS Day” since we have our finish line every year on this important day. Also since we are a worldwide walk we thought we could be a place for the organizations and people across the globe to come together. And… well, someone needed to do it! We’ve set up a new Facebook page for World A.S. Day and Walk Your A.S. Off celebrations! This page will be for everyone – no need to have been part of the walk to participate… Read More »Our World AS Day Events & Comittment
Hello everyone – Jenna here! I am writing this week’s Monday Motivation (ok… on Tuesday) for Heather because she isn’t feeling so great unfortunately. Please send her some good vibes – & a comment below would be lovely. When I heard from her yesterday I told her I would write something so not to worry. I immediately knew what I wanted to write about – the motivation we get from our teammates and fellow travelers on this AS Walk. I feel inspired by their courage, their grit, and their dedication and those qualities motivate me beyond measure! Here are some… Read More »Monday Motivation – Our Teammates
I recently opened the website for this very walk and saw “walking to raise awareness” because that is all that fit in the tiny window of my mini-computer. Of course the end says “of Ankylosing Spondylitis” which we are. We are also raising awareness in ourselves. In these 341 million steps we have walked I’m sure you have learned a bit more about the AS community, the people walking it, running it and literally running it (the people behind the walk) and even a little bit about yourself. First off let me say a huge “WAY TO GO!” for all… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Walk on brave soldiers, WALK ON!
Here we are AS-tronauts – stepping off for week nine on the first leg of our journey to Mars. What a ride it has been! All of us have contributed over 340 million steps so far we are zooming right along. As I was contemplating our motivation this week my strongest supporter, my mother, said something I found really interesting, “sometimes motivation comes from habit”. The more I thought about it I agreed with her. Think about it…each day we strap on our pedometers and walk around with it all day. We do it for ten weeks and along the… Read More »Motivation Monday – Keeping The Habit
What an amazing job everyone! Here’s the break down: Total: 341,341,683 People: 330,649,767 Paws: 10,691,916 Let’s finish strong! We’re averaging around 63 million steps per week which is just awesome everyone! We have a couple of big walk events coming up that will add some pretty big numbers but I’d love if we could hit a BILLION steps this year (might be a stretch but we’ll be posting some ways to get additional donations in the next couple of weeks). Last year we took 654,568,770 collective steps. Do you think we can hit a BILLION this year? For… Read More »Step Totals – Week 1 Through Week 6
This week has been rough due to a lot of personal stuff going on but on the good side all this running here and there did lead to a pretty awesome step count week. Thanks to loads of activity with loads of stress, my body aches EVERYWHERE. Then there is the weather. Almost 80 today and they are calling for flurries Wednesday in the very early morning hours or as other people still consider it, night time. Humidity, no humidity. Cool day, warm day. Rain clouds but no rain. Of course it has been great weather for the Cherry Blossoms… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – Step Conversions
Musical Motivation Monday – by Heather Stewart “You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s the signpost up ahead – your next stop, the Twilight Zone!” – Rod Serling I spent most of the week pondering what to write about. What on Earth could I put on paper to keep our AS-tronauts motivated? What are our visions of our destination? As luck would have it a saw a book about “local boy” Rod Serling and I started thinking… Read More »Monday Motivation – Visions Of Our Destination
Team Spotlight – A.S. Standing Tall Together by Joyce Lameire Meet Michelle Fitch. Michelle decided to do a walk team with her co captain Colleen Vasquez for their support group they run on Facebook to help raise awareness for AS. “This is our second year participating in the walk. This year we have over 60 walkers and our amazing Wee Walkers, which includes my grandson Dominik who is 2 and Colleen’s daycare kids, 8 years and younger.” “We hope to involve more family and friends and others who don’t have AS to help us spread awareness this year.” She had 4… Read More »Team Spotlight: A.S. – Standing Tall Together
I spent most of Sunday on my butt and whilst there I was hemming and hawing over what to write. I mean, I feel like I need to give 5 days of thought, 1 day to chill about it and about an hour to actually type something (if that…). One thing that came to mind and I kind of played around with was this. ↑ errrr…. More like ↗. Never give up. I’m stubborn. I know those who know me well are hardly shocked by this revelation but for everyone else just play along like it’s shocking. Somewhere, somehow, someone… Read More »Tiara's Tuesday Talk – The Rewards Of Not Giving Up!
Musical Motivation Monday – by Heather Stewart It’s Monday again my dear AS-tronauts! This week only one thing continuously came to mind for me. Our pAwS partners! Some of you may not have realized or maybe you don’t remember that this year we are including the steps of our four-legged, tail wagging, barking friends. Why? Well, there are a couple of reasons. Many people with AS rely upon service dogs to help them. Service dogs provide assistance with a variety of medical conditions, not just for the visually and hearing impaired. Service dogs provide help with mobility, anxiety, PTSD, mental… Read More »Monday Motivation – Our Very Special pAwS Partners
